The Mayogi Cooperative was founded in 2010, in a region of Rwanda known for its ideal climate for coffee tree flowering and propagation. The organization supported just over 100 co-op members in its junior years, but in 2017 underwent a dramatic demographic change. With the support of a successful training program in 2017 led by the non-profit Sustainable Growers, the cooperative's numbers grew with the addition of 270 women graduates from the program. Equity and training proved to be the keys to success and led to co-op reaching a significant milestone: a high-ranking submission to the Rwandan Cup of Excellence program in 2018.
The Mayogi Mill and its members have continued to produce outstanding coffees year after year. Predominately Bourbon coffee varietals are gathered from the Gicumbi highlands and transported to the mill, where they are processed and dried on raised beds.
