In 2013 Josue Morales was presented with an opportunity to become a producer in Guatemala. Beneficio La Esperanza was at the time barren with soil that was closer to a sandbox than a fruitful coffee farm. He used this opportunity as a blank slate to really dig deep and see how best to utilize this farm to its optimum potential. This started with creating a study of the farm. Every aspect of what went into the planting of either coffee shrubs or shade trees and the correlation of them was used to see how best to create a budding ecosystem for this farm.
